Towing a Trailer
If you passed your driving test on or after 1st January 1997 (including re-tests) you are limited to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass towing a trailer up to 750kgs or a vehicle and trailer combination up to 3.5 tonnes MAM providing the MAM of the trailer doesn't exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle. You will need to pass an additional test in B+E if you wish to tow a caravan or trailer combination which exceeds these weight limits.
The car and trailer practical tests (B+E) is based on the lorry driving test and lasts approximately one hour.
PASS N GO can provide the tuition required for the test for a refresher course for those who have the entitlement but have never towed before.
Our instructor will cover all aspects of the DSA Trailer test to ensure you have all the information you need when you go for your test.
* Including use of the Pass N Go car and trailer.
If you are considering a trailer training course but are unsure of the length of course you think you should book then we would recommend you book a trailer assessment lesson first and you will receive professional advice and guidance of the length of course applicable to your ability.
The assessment is 2 hours long and costs £50
N.B. If you tow a caravan or trailer without the relevant licence your insurance may be invalid when towing. If you are stopped by the police you face the possibility of losing your licence your car could be crushed! Is it worth the risk?
